Venezuela – On Friday, September 22, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BNN RI), Police Commissioner Prof. Dr. Petrus Reinhard Golose, held a significant bilateral meeting with the Superintendencia Nacional Antidrogas (Sunad) at Casa Amarilla de Caracas, Venezuela. The primary objective of this meeting was to explore potential cooperation in international efforts to combat narcotics.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Director of Intelligence of the BNN, Police Brigadier General Ruddi Setiawan, S.I.K., S.H., M.H., Member of the Expert Group of BNN RI, Amir Hamzah, and representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas. From the Venezuelan side, MG Richard López Vargas, National Superintendent of Antidrugs, Lcda. Johanna Jaimes, Director General of International Drug Cooperation, Abog. Jorge Marcano, Legal Advisor, and Javier Ibarra, Director General of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Asia, the Middle East, and Oceania, also participated in the meeting.
In the context of this meeting, the Head of BNN RI and the National Superintendent of Antidrugs discussed the current situation regarding narcotics trafficking worldwide. They also exchanged information on the strategies and policies implemented by each country in their efforts to combat the narcotics issue.
Venezuela’s geographical location, bordering directly with Colombia, makes it a key transit country in the global distribution of narcotics, especially cocaine. MG Richard López Vargas revealed that they have taken decisive measures by deploying armed forces along all borders, including land, sea, and air. Venezuela has also closely cooperated with countries like France and Colombia in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
As a result of these efforts, Sunad successfully uncovered 3,000 narcotics cases during the period of 2022 – 2023 and seized evidence totaling 34 tons of narcotics. Furthermore, in collaboration with France and Colombia, Venezuela thwarted attempts to traffic 3 tons of cocaine in the border region between Venezuela and Colombia.
In this constructive concluding meeting, the Head of BNN RI and the National Superintendent of Antidrugs agreed to explore closer cooperation opportunities in the future. This includes planning analytical discussions, enhancing information exchange, and capacity building efforts in the joint battle against the narcotics trade, which has devastating effects on societies and countries worldwide.
Cooperation between Indonesia and Venezuela in the fight against narcotics will be a positive step that can have a significant impact on addressing the global narcotics issue.
