Indonesiantalk.com – – ARUN Jakarta Holds First Regional Congress, Eyes Stronger Civic Advocacy for Indonesia Emas 2045
JAKARTA — The Jakarta chapter of the People’s Advocacy Alliance (ARUN) is set to hold its first Regional Congress (Musyawarah Daerah/Musda I) and a public dialogue on July 11, 2025, at the Grand Alia Hotel in Cikini, Central Jakarta, marking what organizers describe as a strategic milestone in strengthening civic advocacy, democracy and the rule of law.
Carrying the theme, “Realizing Asta Cita Toward Indonesia Emas 2045,” the event aims to serve not merely as an internal organizational gathering but as a platform for dialogue among civil society, legal experts, policymakers and community leaders on Indonesia’s long-term development agenda.
Organizing committee chairman M. Deka S. said the congress was intended to consolidate grassroots movements while encouraging constructive public participation in strengthening democratic institutions.
“This event is a starting point for consolidating a people’s movement focused on reinforcing the rule of law and democracy. We want to bring together various stakeholders to engage in open and solution-oriented discussions,” Deka said ahead of the event.
According to organizers, the congress reflects ARUN’s broader ambition to expand its advocacy network in the capital, where national political and legal decisions have far-reaching implications across the country.
Jakarta’s Strategic Role
For ARUN, Jakarta occupies a unique position as Indonesia’s political and administrative center, making the city’s regional chapter a key pillar in promoting democratic governance and public participation.
Paisal Sangaji, chairman of ARUN Jakarta, said the organization hopes to become an active partner in safeguarding democratic values while ensuring that public policies remain responsive to citizens’ needs.
“Jakarta is the center of government and a symbol of our nationhood. We must set an example in upholding a democracy that truly serves the people,” Paisal said.
With organizational networks spanning 34 provinces, ARUN has positioned itself as an advocate for social justice, participatory democracy and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights. The Jakarta chapter is expected to strengthen those efforts by providing a more direct channel for civic engagement in the nation’s capital.
Continuing Nationwide Consolidation
The Jakarta congress follows similar regional meetings previously held in Central Kalimantan, Lampung, Bali, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi, Gorontalo and Central Java.
While each regional congress has addressed local priorities, organizers say they all share a common objective: strengthening internal organizational capacity while expanding public advocacy initiatives across Indonesia.
The Jakarta gathering is expected to produce organizational recommendations and strategic programs aligned with the national vision of Asta Cita, the government’s long-term development agenda, as Indonesia prepares for its centennial in 2045.
Looking Toward 2045
Beyond electing new regional leaders, organizers say the congress is intended to encourage broader discussions on governance, legal reform and democratic resilience in an increasingly dynamic political landscape.
Deka described the event as part of a longer journey toward building a more inclusive and equitable Indonesia.
“This congress is about the future. It is about how we can become part of Indonesia’s journey toward Indonesia Emas 2045,” he said.
By bringing together civic actors and encouraging public dialogue, ARUN hopes its inaugural Jakarta congress will serve as an important step in advancing a vision of Indonesia that is sovereign, just and prosperous as the country moves toward its centennial aspirations in 2045.
