On May 30, 2023, an audience meeting was held with the aim of supporting the government’s program in converting gasoline-powered engines to electric motors.

The meeting took place in the Marore Room, Heritage Building, 1st floor of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan No. 18, Central Jakarta 10110.

The event was attended by the Minister of ESDM, Ir. Arifin Tasrif, accompanied by the Director-General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Dadan Rusdiana, and the Minister’s Special Staff, Sripeni Inten Cahyani.

Representatives from Jiangsu Xinri E-Vehicle Co. Ltd, Chairman of the Board, Zhang Chongsun, and Sales Director, Frank, were also present at the meeting, along with their local partner PT Inovasi Investama Nusantara, represented by Ismeth Wibowo.

The purpose of the audience meeting was to discuss the government’s plan to convert 50,000 gasoline-powered motor units to electric motors in 2023.

In response to the enthusiasm of various electric two-wheeler manufacturers who are striving to increase the domestic content level (TKDN) to 40 percent, the government discussed the potential for providing incentives and assistance for the purchase of battery-based electric motor vehicles (KBLBB).

The meeting focused on efforts to accelerate the electrification era in line with the mandate outlined in Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 regarding the KBLBB program.

Continuing the meeting on May 31, 2023, at the Ministry of Industry office, the participants including the Director-General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry (Ilmate), Dr. Ir. Taufik Bawazier, M.Sc, the Secretary-General of Ilmate, Yan Sibarang Tandiele, as well as the Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment, and Defense Equipment, Hendro Martono, and Dodi were present in the discussion regarding the plan to establish an electric motor assembly plant.

The government continues to encourage the industrial sector to invest in the production and assembly of electric motors to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support climate change mitigation efforts.

To support this, the government is committed to providing appropriate incentives and support to achieve the large-scale conversion goal to electric motors in Indonesia.

This audience meeting is expected to be an important step forward in realizing the government’s vision to promote the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles and contribute to environmental sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.
