Indonesia has the opportunity to export electricity to Singapore as part of a memorandum of understanding signed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif and Singapore’s Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng on Friday (8/9) at the ESDM Ministry Office. ESDM Secretary General Dadan Kusdiana revealed that this cooperation is a follow-up to the ASEAN Meeting in Bali and is expected to enhance electricity interconnections within ASEAN.
“This cooperation is specifically related to cross-border electricity trade,” explained Dadan. Singapore plans to import 4 GW of low-carbon electricity by 2035 to meet its electricity needs, with part of this demand expected to be supplied from Indonesia. The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore has given conditional approval for the import of 2 GW of low-carbon electricity from Indonesia to Singapore.
