On May 3, 2024, at precisely 9:18 in the morning, Indonesia marked a significant milestone in its automotive and electric vehicle industry with the inauguration of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sunra electric motor factory in the Kendal Special Economic Zone, Central Java.
The event was graced by the top management of electric motors, including Wu Lei from PT Sunra Asia Pacific High-Tech, and was warmly received by the Acting Governor of Central Java, Commissioner General of Police (Retired), Nana Sujana.
Acting Governor Nana Sujana, accompanied by the Head of the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperative, and Small and Medium Enterprises (DPMPTSP) of Central Java, Sakina Rosellawasari, and the Head of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of Central Java, Boedyo, expressed high appreciation for the establishment of this factory.
Nana Sujana expressed hopes that the construction would proceed smoothly and contribute significantly to the government’s program to accelerate the formation of an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.
The presence of this factory signifies more than just a ceremonial occasion; it marks a crucial moment for the advancement of the electric vehicle industry in the country.
Dr. Ir. Taufiek Bawazier M. Sc., Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry at the Ministry of Industry, described his hopes that the presence of PT Sunra Asia Pacific Hi-Tech would bring various new models and expand the choices of electric vehicles for the Indonesian people, thus accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the Sunra electric motor assembly plant was attended by various prominent figures, including the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry at the Ministry of Industry, the Regent of Kendal Dico Ganinduto, as well as various other relevant officials.
In their remarks, Sunra’s leaders reaffirmed their commitment to investing in local production infrastructure and human resource development, with the aim of strengthening Indonesia’s automotive industry ecosystem.
The factory itself spans an area of 12 hectares and is planned to employ 1500 local workers. It is slated to export electric motors to Europe and Africa.
With a focus on innovation, quality, and sustainability, the Sunra electric motor factory in the Kendal Special Economic Zone, Central Java, is expected to become a production hub that not only creates jobs for the local community but also drives the development of Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry to a global level.
