Jakarta, August 25, 2023 – The Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN RI), Commissioner General Prof. Dr. Petrus Reinhard Golose, took the time to visit OKANA, a Greek organization dedicated to addressing drug-related issues in their country, on Friday (August 25).

His arrival was warmly welcomed by Athanasios Theocharis (President of OKANA-Greek Organization Against Drugs), who also serves as a member of the National Drug Control Planning and Coordination Committee.

The visit of the Head of BNN RI to OKANA was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Health of Greece, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Greece, Y.M. Bebeb Abdul Kurnia Nugraha Djundjunan, a member of BNN RI’s Expert Group in international cooperation, Ambassador Harry James Kandou; Director of BNN’s Drug Rehabilitation and Community Empowerment Center (PLRKM), Dr. Amrita Devi, SpKJ, M, and BNN’s Director of Intelligence, Police Brigadier General Ruddi Setiawan, S.H., S.I.K., M.H.

Established in 1995, OKANA is a drug control organization in Greece. However, it was only in 2002 that this largest public service organization under the Greek government began to provide prevention and rehabilitation services related to narcotics.

In 2020, OKANA expanded its services to address addiction and addictive behaviors related to alcohol, gambling, and individuals dependent on gaming or the internet.

OKANA operates based on four pillars in their efforts to combat drug abuse in Greece, namely Prevention, Harm Reduction, Therapy, and Social Reintegration. The organization boasts 1,439 employees spread across 80 rehabilitation facilities offering substitution therapy services, 75 prevention centers, 26 Harm Reduction direct access programs, and 11 social reintegration program locations.

Following this, the Indonesian delegation visited OKANA’s Rehabilitation Center, which provides inpatient care for drug addicts and is supported by a multidisciplinary team of professionals.

Therapeutic modalities employed are tailored to assessment results, including Motivational Interviewing, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Relapse Prevention Programs.

At the end of the visit, BNN RI and OKANA agreed to continue their collaboration with Indonesia, primarily focusing on the exchange of information in the field of drug addict services.
