Indonesiantalk.com — Sunda Leaders Convene at Majelis Musyawarah Sunda
On Monday, July 8, 2024, notable Sunda figures from various regions of Indonesia gathered for an impressive event at the Sate Building Hall in Bandung, West Java.
This event, named Majelis Musyawarah Sunda (MMS), was attended by Pini Sepuh and other prominent figures.
During the gathering, attendees commemorated the significant contributions of figures such as Ir. Djuanda Kartawidjaja, RE Martadinata, and Mochtar Kusumaatmadja in advancing maritime development ideas in Indonesia.
Ir. Djuanda, for example, was recognized for his efforts to extend Indonesia’s territorial waters from 3 miles to 12 miles, a strategic move to safeguard the country’s maritime sovereignty.
“What Mister Djuanda and Mister Mochtar fought for represents the resilience of the Sundanese people. So, the concept of ‘Ngajurung Urang Sunda ka Jauhna’ or outward-looking would be meaningless without considering the sea as its medium,” said Admiral Ade Supandi, a member of the Dewan Pini Sepuh Sunda.
The event also served as a moment for the Sunda community to unify their vision in building Indonesia’s maritime identity, in line with the spirit of the Proclamation of August 17, 1945, Pancasila, the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Majelis Musyawarah Sunda (MMS) itself was established as a forum for deliberation within the framework of Sunda, nationalism, and statehood, with a commitment to continue contributing to the tangible development for the Sunda people and the Indonesian nation as a whole.
“PM Djuanda’s struggle ensured that the Dutch ships, which used to move back and forth in our territorial waters, could no longer exploit our resources. The territorial waters, initially 3 miles from the land, were extended to 12 miles. This struggle continued until the regime of archipelagic states,” he explained.
“What Pak Djuanda and Pak Mochtar fought for represents the perseverance of the Sundanese people. Therefore, the concept of ‘Ngajurung Urang Sunda ka Jauhna’ or outward-looking is meaningless without considering the sea as the medium,” emphasized Ade.
Ismeth Wibowo, the grandson of national hero Ir. H. Djuanda from West Java and a member of the Forum of Economic, Business, and Development Experts of Majelis Musyawarah Sunda, attended the event. He is also a Commissioner of PT Sunra Asia Pacific Hi-Tech, an electric motorcycle assembly plant in Indonesia.
Also present were former Deputy Chief of Police of the Republic of Indonesia, Commissioner General of Police (Ret.) Nanan Soekarna, and Dr. Ilham Akbar Habibie who is a candidate for Governor of West Java Province.
The event was graced by the presence of Karaton Sumedang Larang (KSL), represented by Sri Radya KSL PYM H.R.I Lukman Soemadisoeria, Radya Anom KSL YM Rd Luky Djohari Soemawilaga, along with Panata KSL who attended the Majelis Musyawarah Sunda (MMS) invitation.
Other notable attendees included former Minister of State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform Prof. Dr. Yuddy Chrisnandi, West Java Provincial Secretary Herman Suryatman, former Deputy Chief of Police of the Republic of Indonesia Komjen Pol (Purn) Nanan Soekarna, Deputy Attorney General Dr. Sunarta SH, Andri Perkasa Kantaprawira, Dr. Nina Kurnia Hikmawati, Achmad Balya, Okki Jusuf Judanagara and Jumhur Hidayat, a grassroots empowerment activist.
The event also recognized the founders of Indonesia and Pasundan who were members of BPUPKI, including Oto Iskandar Dinata, Mr. Iwa Koesoemasumantri, and RAA Wiranatakusumah.
Held at the Sate Building Hall, Jl. Diponegoro No.22, Citarum, Bandung Wetan District, Bandung City, West Java, the event was attended by Pini Sepuh from various regions.
