Indonesiantalk.com — Bali, September 3, 2024 – Ismeth Wibowo, Senior Advisor of PT Sinyu Investasi Group, and Ahmad Balya, Managing Partner of the Law Firm Balya Humaidi & Partners, participated in the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) held at The Mulia Hotel, Bali.
This forum is part of the Indonesia-Africa Forum 2024 series, which took place from September 1 to 3, 2024.
The Indonesia-Africa Forum garnered significant attention with the presence of prominent figures, including Indonesian Ambassador to Harare, Dewa Made Yuniarta Sastrawan; Defense Minister and President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto; Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi; Deputy Foreign Minister Pahala Mansury; Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo; Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subianto; and Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian.
Also in attendance were Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas Head Suharso Monoarfa, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Udayana Military Commander Major General Zamroni, Bank Mandiri President Director Darmawan Junaidi, Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati, and Pindad President Director Abraham Mose.
The event was officially opened by President Joko Widodo during the Joint Leaders Forum session, part of the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) and the Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF).
In his opening remarks, President Jokowi stated, “Your Excellencies, I hereby declare the Joint Leaders Forum of the High-Level Multi-Stakeholder Partnership and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum open.”
This statement marked the beginning of a series of discussions and collaborations between Indonesia and African nations attending the forum.
The forum, themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063,” is inspired by the spirit of the Asia-Africa Conference (KAA) in strengthening global cooperation, particularly in addressing world challenges such as economic transformation, energy, food security, health, and climate change.
In addition to President Jokowi, other notable figures such as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Arsjad Rasjid, and Deputy Foreign Minister Pahala Mansury delivered keynote speeches.
The forum was attended by hundreds of participants from various sectors, including government, private, and academia, who engaged in panel discussions, exhibitions, and business matching sessions.
In his speech, President Jokowi highlighted three key issues in Indonesia’s cooperation with African countries, particularly Zimbabwe: the importance of strengthening economic cooperation through preferential trade agreements, international solidarity in facing global challenges such as economic slowdown, inflation, unemployment, and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
The 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum is expected to serve as a catalyst for strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and African nations, as well as accelerating the achievement of Africa’s Agenda 2063 through closer partnerships and stronger synergy.
