The official visit of the Head of Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Commissioner General Prof. Dr. Petrus Reinhard Golose, to Europe concluded in Paris, France.

Upon arriving in France, the Head of BNN conducted a meeting with several key figures, including H.E. Olivier Caron, the Special Envoy for Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime International Strategy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France, on Monday (28/8).

During this meeting, the Head of BNN was accompanied by the Indonesian Ambassador to France, H.E. Mr. Mohamad Oemar; Member of BNN’s Expert Group on International Cooperation, Ambassador Harry James Kandou; Director of the BNN Deputy for Rehabilitation’s Center for Drug Rehabilitation, Dr. Amrita Devi, Sp.KJ., M.Si; and Director of Intelligence at the BNN Deputy for Eradication, Police Brigadier General Ruddi Setiawan, S.H., S.I.K., M.H. The discussion revolved around drug-related issues and the countermeasures undertaken by each country.

Both Indonesia and France possess strategic geographical locations, making them highly vulnerable to the threats of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

In their joint efforts to address these issues, both parties emphasized the importance of intense cooperation and communication to reach mutually beneficial agreements that would significantly impact both nations.

During this meeting, Indonesia and France shared a common stance on several aspects concerning narcotics. They both agreed not to support the ongoing efforts to legalize marijuana by certain parties.

Furthermore, both sides concurred that a balanced approach between supply reduction and demand reduction was necessary in combating drug-related problems while upholding human rights, particularly in providing rehabilitation services to drug abuse victims.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Head of BNN to express profound appreciation to H.E. Olivier Caron for his unwavering support to the BNN’s endeavors in Preventing and Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking (P4GN) in Indonesia.
