Jakarta — The government has expressed deep concern over the alleged acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), which occurred on Thursday night (March 12) in Jakarta.
The government strongly condemned all forms of violence against citizens.
Head of the Government Communications Office, Angga Raka Prabowo, stated that acts of violence cannot be justified in a state governed by the rule of law and must be processed in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
“The government expresses its deep concern over the incident that befell Andrie Yunus. We strongly condemn any act of violence against anyone,” Angga said in a statement.
The government also hopes that the victim will receive optimal medical treatment and recover swiftly from the impact of the incident.
Furthermore, the government emphasized that every citizen has the right to express opinions peacefully in a democratic society, and differences in views must not be responded to with violence.
Authorities were urged to conduct a thorough investigation into the case. Law enforcement agencies are expected to handle the investigation professionally, transparently, and comprehensively in order to provide legal certainty and justice for the victim.
“Every act of violence must be processed firmly in accordance with the law. The government hopes the legal process will proceed properly so that those responsible can be held accountable,” Angga said.
