Indonesiantalk.com — Atma Jaya Jakarta Halts Ferienjob Internship Program and Ensures Student Safety
Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (UAJ) Jakarta confirms the cessation of the Ferienjob internship program in Germany, involving 27 students from various faculties of UAJ, since February 2024. All students have returned to their homeland safely and in good health.
According to Dr. Agustina Dwi Retno Nurcahyanti, the University Secretary, “We have conducted internal investigations and in-depth evaluations of the Ferienjob program in Germany. The program was halted early in the year after students returned safely, which was our top priority.”
Joint evaluations with the International Office of Atma Jaya highlighted several issues requiring improvement, including suboptimal management in job placements. This encompassed issues such as student dispatch processes, finances, and labor protection.
Agustina further added, “We have taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students since the inception of the program, including pre-departure briefings and coordination with various relevant parties.”
UAJ has also issued internal circulars regarding the suspension of this program and enhanced coordination with the Ministry of Education and Culture, as well as other universities, to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Additionally, UAJ is committed to continuously enhancing international cooperation with other advanced countries in Asia and Europe.
Agustina emphasized, “This experience serves as a significant learning curve for us. We will be more vigilant in planning and executing internship programs in the future.”
Finally, UAJ asserts its readiness to take legal action if necessary to uphold the university’s reputation and ensure a conducive teaching and learning environment.
