Havana, Cuba – Thursday, September 28, 2023 – The National Narcotics Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BNN RI) and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cuba have officially signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) in Havana, Cuba.
The signing ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Pol. Ruddi Setiawan, S.I.K., M.H., Director of Intelligence of BNN RI, and Brigadier General Emilio Garcia Ameller, Director of Investigations, who also holds the position of Deputy Minister of Interior of Cuba. The signing was witnessed by Commissioner Pol. Prof. Dr. Petrus R. Golose, Head of the National Narcotics Agency of the Republic of Indonesia, and H.E. Dr. Nana Yuliana Ph.D, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Cuba.
The LoI signifies the commitment of BNN RI and the Ministry of Interior of Cuba to collaborate in combatting the illicit trafficking of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and narcotic precursors. Both parties have agreed to exchange information and engage in mutually supportive cooperation to address the issues related to narcotics.
Indonesia and Cuba acknowledge that the misuse and illicit trade of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and narcotic precursors pose a serious threat to health, security, and well-being, while also affecting the economy, society, culture, and politics. Hence, they consider it imperative to collaborate and further develop their cooperation through this Letter of Intent.
Furthermore, the implementation of this cooperation between BNN RI and the Ministry of Interior of Cuba will be followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Both BNN RI and the Ministry of Interior of Cuba hope that this collaboration will support and strengthen each other in combating the illicit trafficking of narcotics, which is a form of Transnational Organized Crime. Indonesia and Cuba are united in their commitment to the War On Drugs.
