Indonesiantalk.com — Preventing Cocaine Smuggling: Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Meets Colombian Police
Following a visit to the Agencia de Renovacion del Territorio (ART) in Colombia, the Indonesian delegation led by the Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Commissioner General Prof. Dr. Petrus R. Golose, accompanied by the Director of Intelligence of BNN, Brigadier General Pol. Ruddi Setiawan, and members of the BNN’s Expert Group, Amir Hamzah, continued their working visit agenda by meeting with the Colombian Police on Monday (September 25th).
During this working visit, the Indonesian delegation was received by Vice Director General/Director General in-charge of the Colombian Police, Brigadier General Tito Yesid Castellanos Tuay, accompanied by the Director for Anti-Narcotics, Brigadier General Nicloas Zapata, and the Head of Cooperation and International Relations, Colonel Maria Niyelena Hoyos Medina. This meeting represents the implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties back in 2016.
In this bilateral meeting, the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Colombian Police exchanged strategies for handling narcotics in their respective countries.
The Vice Director General of the Colombian Police took the opportunity to mention several narcotics that are prevalent in Colombia, including cocaine, marijuana, and heroin. Colombia itself is known as the world’s second-largest producer of marijuana.
In contrast to Colombia, the circulation of cocaine in Indonesia is relatively low. However, the Head of BNN emphasized that they remain vigilant, as the main purpose of the visit to Colombia is to prevent the entry of cocaine into Indonesia.
At the end of the meeting, the Colombian Police offered training in the field of narcotics eradication to the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN), both in the form of face-to-face courses and online courses.
The Colombian Police also encouraged increased cooperation in line with the framework of the memorandum of understanding that had been agreed upon by both parties.
