Indonesiantalk.com — Togetherness and Heroic Values Shine at IKPNI Family Gathering and Team Building in Sentul
The cool breeze of Sentul’s highlands accompanied the spirit of unity during the Family Gathering and Team Building event organized by the Ikatan Keluarga Pahlawan Nasional Indonesia (IKPNI) at Villa Aman D’Sini on Monday, May 26.
This special occasion brought together descendants of Indonesia’s National Heroes from various regions, serving as a meaningful moment to strengthen bonds, rekindle the spirit of struggle, and reaffirm IKPNI’s commitment to preserving the legacy of heroism.
Participants gathered early in the morning at the designated meeting point before heading together to the venue, where a day filled with reflection, fun, and connection awaited.
Among the distinguished attendees was the Chairperson of IKPNI for the 2024–2029 term, Prof. Dr. Meutia Farida Hatta Swasono, daughter of Proclamator and Indonesia’s first Vice President Mohammad Hatta. Former Minister of State for Women’s Empowerment was accompanied by her younger sister, Halida Hatta.
Also in attendance were several notable figures, including Melani Leimena (former Deputy Speaker of the MPR and daughter of Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Johannes Leimena), Air Marshal (Ret.) Ian Santoso Perdanakusuma (son of Air Marshal Abdul Halim Perdanakusuma), Ganang Soedirman (grandson of Commander General Soedirman), Upik Syahrir (daughter of Indonesia’s first Prime Minister Sutan Sjahrir), Ria Martadinata (daughter of Navy Admiral R.E. Martadinata), and Indah (granddaughter of Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo). Nono (son of TNI general Basuki Rahmat).
Other prominent descendants included Indra Widodo (family representative of Air Commodore Iswahyudi), Aisyah Natsir (granddaughter of former Prime Minister Mohammad Natsir), as well as family members of KH Ahmad Dahlan, Gatot Soebroto, Dewi Sartika, M.H. Thamrin, Dr. Moewardi, and Dr. Soeharto.
The event officially began with the singing of Indonesia Raya and the IKPNI March led by Dr Fatma, igniting a sense of national pride and deep respect for the heroes’ sacrifices.
Iskandar Purba, the event coordinator, delivered an opening speech, followed by heartfelt remarks from Prof. Dr. Meutia Hatta Swasono, who emphasized the importance of upholding the moral integrity and fighting spirit inherited from the nation’s heroes.
A moment of prayer led by Mas Ibong united the participants in a shared hope that the values of heroism would continue to guide IKPNI into the future. Also present was Antarini Malik, Secretary General of IKPNI, daughter of former Vice President Adam Malik.

Participants then introduced themselves in a warm and informal session that fostered camaraderie and deeper connections. The team-building games, facilitated by professional trainers, brought energy and excitement to the day, encouraging collaboration and unity through playful yet meaningful challenges.
After a break for lunch and prayers, the afternoon featured a Trivia Quiz on the “Values and Life Stories of Indonesia’s National Heroes.” This engaging session served as both entertainment and a reminder of the sacrifices made by the ancestors represented at the event.
Adding to the joyful atmosphere was a performance by Group Band Warna, bringing lively entertainment to the gathering. The hero’s family was also entertained by Nina Tamam and singer and dentist Rita Dinah Kandi
The highlight of the event was a group photo and video session near the swimming pool, where participants sang the solemn song “Syukur” together—an expression of gratitude for the sacrifices of the heroes and the strength of the bond uniting their descendants.
In an interview, Ismeth Wibowo remarked, “I am here as the grandson of Ir. H. Djuanda, Indonesia’s 10th and final Prime Minister.” He also reminded attendees that Ir. H. Djuanda was declared a National Hero through Presidential Decree No. 224 of 1963, underscoring that today’s generation must carry the torch of that legacy with integrity.
As mandated in Article 34 paragraph (1) of Law No. 20 of 2009 on Titles, Decorations, and Honors, IKPNI stands as a vital forum for the heirs of National Heroes to safeguard their ancestors’ legacy, uphold their values, and inspire the spirit of heroism amidst the evolving challenges of the times.
Through this gathering, IKPNI not only honors history but also affirms the enduring relevance of heroic values in shaping the nation’s present and future.
